Dr. Liam Pender

Dr. Liam Pender is President and CEO of Egret Technologies, the company he started in 2005. Dr. Pender is an electrical engineer who has traveled the technology path from academia to research laboratories, through telecom equipment engineering to product management. Today, in his role at Egret Technologies, he sets technical direction and business strategy. Dr. Pender sits on the advisory council of academic intellectual property transfer bodies and is retained by government agencies for expert opinions on research funding.

Dr. Pender is a recognized pioneer in fiber optic design, with twenty years in a leading engineering role. Prior to Egret Technologies, he was Engineering Director at Tellabs where he managed all aspects of the first release of Verizon’s FiOS Fiber-to-the-Home product. He has also held engineering posts with Advanced Fiber Communications (AFC), Racal-Datacom, and British Telecom. An author of papers in High Capacity Optical Transmission Systems, he is responsible for novel innovations in PON technology. Dr. Pender holds a bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering and a Ph.D. in Optical Physics, both from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.
